This being our second lighthouse adventure starting in Portland, we wanted to have some new experiences. We decided to try Mother’s Bistro and Bar. This has been long rated by Trip Adviser as one of the top 10 restaurants in the city.

We made reservations for a 6:15pm diner. We were seated promptly and the meal was immediately kicked off with hot out-of-the-oven break and fresh churned butter. I also enjoyed freshly brewed ice tea, my drink of choice.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is very casual in spite of the fact that the service is very formal.

My son ordered the cream of cauliflower soup and grilled Portobello mushrooms.

I ordered the Cobb salad.

My son described the Portobello Mushrooms as having a strong woodsy taste with a slight undertone of being bitter. This was balanced by the soup, which was creamy and had a more delicate taste.

My salad was also highlighted by a lot of subtle flavors, which I found enjoyable. The restaurant cured the bacon in the salad (clearly not store bought). It had a very distinctive peppery taste, which went well with the salad.

We followed up our meal with two amazing deserts.

My son ordered a flowerless chocolate cake and I ordered the homemade strawberry sorbet.

We would both insist on coming back to Mother’s Bistro & Bar when we return to Portland.
